Learn More Why?

Can you hear your child snoring from down the hall? Is your child frequently wetting the bed or having nightmares? If so, your child may be suffering from Sleep Disordered Breathing (SDB). Over recent years, studies have shown that SDB is much more serious of a condition than we thought. While we now understand the importance of SDB, it can sometimes be difficult to diagnose, as SDB symptoms are often overlooked or misdiagnosed.

It is estimated that 9 out of 10 children suffer from one or more symptoms of SDB. In addition to causing excessive tiredness, SDB can lead to several debilitating health disorders, including:

ADD/ADHD
Chronic allergies
Aggressive behavior or irritability
Mouth breathing
Lower IQ or lower grades in science, math and spelling

Snoring
Bedwetting
Swollen Adenoids & Tonsils
Daytime drowsiness
Crooked teeth

Restless sleep
Dark circles under the eyes
Nightmares
Frequent headaches
Halted growth

DOES YOUR CHILD SUFFER FROM ONE OF THE ABOVE HEALTH DISORDERS? CONSIDER HEALTHYSTART™

The HealthyStart™ system is specifically designed to use oral appliance therapy as a way to treat SDB and its symptoms. According to studies, SDB-induced oxygen deprivation greatly contributes to the above health disorders. By wearing an oral appliance, your child’s airway passage can remain unobstructed and help your child breathe properly.
HealthyStart™ oral appliances are designed to promote the proper growth of the jaw and airway, thus promoting proper nasal breathing and helping your child avoid SDB-associated health disorders. The HealthyStart™ appliances also work to straighten your child’s teeth without braces. With proper jaw alignment, an unobstructed airway and a straighter smile, any symptoms of SDB that your child may experience can begin to disappear. This can ultimately help your child grow, learn and develop normally and to their greatest potential.

TREATING THE CAUSE, NOT THE SYMPTOMS

Many children who experience one or more of the health conditions listed above are simply given medication to “treat” that symptom. Rarely is the root cause explored or even discovered. At Restoration Smiles, we take a different approach. If your child is suffering from any of the above conditions, our Dentist, Dr. Jennifer Mai, can examine your child for signs of obstructed or irregular breathing. We may also have you complete a questionnaire about your child’s sleep and speech patterns. This will help us identify and treat the source of your child’s condition instead of providing just a band-aid solution.
